Aci, Galatea e Polifemo video

The new video trailer for Rohstoff Oper has brought back happy memories of performances as Galatea in a production of Handel’s opera Aci, Galatea e Polifemo, performed in bars (or Kneipen) in Berlin in May this year with Miriam Dirr, Benjamin König and Enno Kraus, and directors Marc P. Gabriel and Wenzel Vöcks. Avant-garde, trilingual, in the round and very neon – it was such a fun production. Plus I got to wear a very fetching bubblegum-pink wig…

An early opera of Handel’s, he later reused the story in the more well-known English-language version Acis and Galatea. Personally, I think the music of the original is better – especially the dramatic tear-jerking aria “Sforzano, piangere”.
