Happy New Year!

I can’t quite believe 2015 is over! It’s been a wondeful year and I feel very lucky to have had such opportunities and worked with such great colleagues.

I’ve spent a lot of fun and challenging moments working on a new opera with Welsh National Opera, an Armenian opera at the Grimeborn Festival, and Street Scene at the RNCM (complete with accents, animals and ice-creams)!

I’ve performed at some fantastic venues – Bridgewater Hall, Chester Cathedral and the Oxford Lieder Festival among others – and had the chance to sing some amazing repertoire, not least the brand new works written by the brilliant Anna Appleby, John Uren, Richard Evans, Michael Hope and Lucy Armstrong.

I also persuaded Rachel Fright into a period dress for our costumed Liederabend at the Schumanns’ with John Holland-Avery and dabbled in performance art at the Manchester Contemporary Festival for Maeve Rendle. And I met some brilliant people at the Oxenfoord course up in Scotland and made some equally nice friends closer to home at the BBC Daily Service singers.

I’m already excited about 2016, which is turning out to be a year full of new experiences.

I’m going to be making the most of my final two terms at the RNCM, before I finish my Masters and join the chorus of Opera Holland Park for the summer. I’ll also sing my first CPE Bach Magnificat, Mozart Requiem and Haydn Nelson Mass, perform two concerts with a new Baroque group – the Rosa Mundi Ensemble – and tour a production of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore with Opra Cymru. And then in September I’ll be starting on the opera course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland…where I’ll hopefully be able to improve my pronunciation of ‘Auld Lang Syne’ in time for the next New Year!

So Happy New Year everyone! Here’s to health, happiness and music in 2016!
